Movie Preview

Megastar Mamootty and Director Ranjith joins again for the fifth time to give a superhit in their next movie ‘Paleri Manikyam’. While all the four films were scripted by Ranjith but this time he is not the script writer. The film is based on the novel written by T.P. Rajeevan by the same name ‘Paleri Manikyam’. The novel was serialised before in a Malayalam weekly. The novel’s theme is based on a true story which impressed the director. The director had plans to introduce newcomers for the film but Mamootty agreed to play the key role during their phone conversation.

Mamootty plays a role of an officer who handles a murder case which is 53 years old. It’s about a girl named Manikyam who was raped and murdered brutally on the eleventh day after her marriage. The case was closed since there was no clue and no suspects were found. The incident happened in a place called ‘Paleri’ near Kozhikode. The film features the style of early 1950 and the shoot has been made in Paleri, Palakad and Delhi.

Debutant Mythili plays the role of Manikyam and some other important roles are played by Shewatha Menon, Srinivasan, Siddque and Suresh Krishnan. Film is made under the banners of Varnachithra Big Screen and A.V.A productions.The film is produced by Maha Subair and A.V. Anoop. The film is expected to be released December 2009.

Neelathamara is the remake of an old malayalam movie with the same name Neelathamara. This is the first time in the history of malayalam film, an yesteryear malayalam movie is being remade. MT Vasudevan Nair did the re-writing of the old script and it is reflected in the entire movie.

The movie passes through the yester-years showing some nostalgic moments in the life of our Heroine Kunji Malu (Archana Kavi). Archana got lagre applause from the crowd whenever she appeared in the big screen. Rima Kallingal did the role of Ammini, who is a friend of Kunjimalu, had a small role and she did that very well. The sory is entirely based on the heroine. Even our hero Kamalesh had a small role.

Apart from the title song, there are two other songs in the movie. One of them has already become a hit. Lyricsist Vayalar Sarath Varma and music director Vidyasagar deserves the entire credit. Till the Interval the movie is much interesting with some love scenes and one song, and the song really hit the deck. The song "Anuraga Vilochanaayi.." got very huge applause from the audience. The Camera man Vijay had done a fair better job.

After the interval the movie enters nto a sentimental mood. Samrutha Sunil was the another character in the movie and she appeared after the interval. She also did a nice work. She did the role of Ratnam, who is the wife of our hero. About 30 minutes after the interval, the flashback ends and moves to real life. The second half is totally predictable one and truly speaking, the climax didn't did the trick. It was not up to the mark. The story ends with telling us nothing. A Pathetic climax I would say.

Any way its worth watching the film because of the songs and some goot acting by Archana. The song will give some mileage to the movie thats of sure.

I Will give 5.5/10 for the movie
and 8/10 for ArchanaKavi.

Kurbaan Review

What if your husband - the man you love and share a home and bed with, turns out to be a terrorist?

Kurbaan, produced by Karan Johar and directed by Rensil D’Silva, constructs this unimaginably tortured situation.

The Romance between Saif and Kareena is brisk. Both are professors at a university in Delhi but we see her teach exactly once. They spend more time drinking coffee, romancing and believe it or not, kissing in the staff room. I had no idea college professors had this much fun.

When Avantika gets a call asking her to return to New York University, the two rush into marriage and fly to America. It all seems perfectly sunny until a neighbour reveals to Avantika that things aren’t quite what they seem.

In a quietly frightening, nicely done scene, Avantika discovers that Ehsaan is a terrorist. In fact, his name isn’t Ehsaan at all.

Ehsaan won’t allow his fellow terrorists to kill his wife because she is pregnant but also because somewhere in the course of scheming, he’s fallen in love with her.

He threatens to have her father killed and keeps her quiet and well-fed, a prisoner in her own home.

What Worked

Saif and Kareena’s tense, volatile relationship is gripping and the performances are heart-felt. Saif’s understated menace is the perfect foil for Kareena’s aching vulnerability. Even Vivek Oberoi, playing Riyaaz, an investigative journalist who infiltrates the sleeper cell, forgets his Mission Istanbul-style posturing and acts.

The performances, melodious music and snazzy camerawork are really the soaring points.

What Did Not

But nothing can camouflage Kurbaan’s specious logic and faulty writing. The film has ambition but it is too flawed and simplistic to explore issues like religion, violence and the politics of terrorism with any conviction or gravitas.

The most critical plot points in the film make little sense—the FBI has Ehsaan’s photograph and history on their records. An FBI agent barks—"I want this man found and found fast"—and yet, Ehsaan roams around freely.

When Avantika realizes that her neighbours are dubious, she doesn’t call the cops like any normal person would. Instead, she goes alone, at night, into their basement and stumbles on a dead body.

Riyaaz goes one step further. When he figures out that there is a sleeper cell, he doesn’t call the FBI. Instead he declares: "I’m going to deal with it myself" and joins the gang.

The terrorists aren’t very bright either. After one dinner, they enlist Riyaaz into the group. People dating each other probably spend more time looking up for partners on Google than these guys do before bringing in Riyaaz on a plan to blow up subway stations.

In a regular Hindi film, viewers are happy to suspend disbelief. But a film that deals with such serious, intricate issues cannot demand that comfort.

Moral of the Story

Rensil is a talent to watch. He isn’t afraid to take risks but his ambition and good intentions aren’t matched by the sophistication that this project required.

The movie stars superstar Mammootty in the lead and will be directed by the veteran Shaji Kailas. and Swetha Vijay and Kaniha are playing the leading ladies in this one. It will be scripted by A K Saajan. Shaji who is known for his stylish portrayal of heroes is expected to deliver yet another hit with this one and the expectations are high.

Kurbaan is an upcoming Hindi movie in the direction of Rensil D’Silva. Kurbaan movie releases on 20th November, 2009 in India. Kurbaan 2009 Hindi movie is based global terrorism. On the other hand, she meets a temporary professor, Ehsaan Khan. Saif Ali Khan has played the character of Ehsaan in Kurbaan movie.

Kurbaan movie introduces a dramatic love story between Avantika and Ehsaan. After a month, Avantika is called from her University in New York. She wants to leave for New York but Ehsaan share his emotions. He also wanted to go with her. He can go with her if she marries him.

Soon they get marred and leave for New York. They buy a house in an Indian neighborhood in New York. Their conservative Muslim neighbors, Hamid and Anjum invite them for dinner.

Avantika meets Salma in the dinner party. She invites Salma to her home also. Soon, Salma comes in danger and pleads with Avantika to help. Soon, Kurbaan movie introduces a series of danger around Avantika. Now, she realizes that she is in a huge game.

Kurbaan 2009 movie is very similar to Fanaa 2006 movie. Fanaa 2006 was also started with Delhi. Amir plays a game with Kajol to fulfill his desire. Very similarly, Saif marry to Kareena in Kurbaan to fulfill a plan. Kurbaan is also based on global terrorism where hijack and blood are the main theme of the movie.

Kurbaan introduces a great love on the one hand. Similarly, there is terrorism and blood on the other hand. The movie has not new theme despite, it has new face, new aspect and new drama such as Ghajini movie.
